Pedroncelli
Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyards and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley, many things have changed, but some have remained the same. Today, the vineyards are planted to premium grape varieties, the winery expanded to accommodate current production, and wines bearing the Pedroncelli name grace tables from coast to coast. But two elements from 75 years ago remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family grows grapes, and the family's dedication to making fine wines. Dry Creek Valley is widely recognized as one of California's finest vineyard regions. Only 25 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the valley enjoys a climate of warm days and cool nights that enables grapes to develop generous, fully ripened fruit at maturity. Over 100 acres of Pedroncelli estate vineyards are situated on the valley's eastern benches and hills, where well-drained, gravelly soils help develop and concentrate varietal character in zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, sauvignon blanc, sangiovese, petite sirah and cabernet franc. In addition to the estate vineyards, the Pedroncellis have developed close relationships with top growers who provide the additional fruit needed to meet the demands of a growing market. Consistent with the family's commitment to the unique flavors of the region, all these growers are within ten miles of the winery. Winemaker John Pedroncelli and Director of Marketing Jim Pedroncelli have been quiet innovators since gaining their first wine business experience alongside their father. John uses his unsurpassed knowledge of Dry Creek Valley to select the ideal grape and trellis for each estate vineyard and over the years he forged strong ties with top local growers. Continuing the legacy of a premium family winery has been and remains John's greatest commitment. Over the years, Jim has expanded distribution, and revamped both packaging and the product list. Meeting the demands of an ever changing market while remaining true to the goal of maintaining a graceful family business is a challenge. One that he has met and is teaching to the next generation. The third generation, including Jim's daughters Julie, Cathy, Lisa and Joanne, son-in-law Lance Blakeley and John's son Richard, has begun showing its own innovative spirit in vineyard management, finance, marketing, and sales. The roots of the Pedroncelli family are deeply planted in the fertile soil of the Dry Creek Valley. The fourth generation can often be seen riding on dad's lap on a tractor, banging away on a keyboard or wheeling wine around on a hand truck. John Senior would be proud of the legacy he began. The winery's evolution and the family's dedication has enabled John to fine-tune wines already widely appreciated for their consistent style. Rich with varietal fruit, subtly complex and beautifully balanced, Pedroncelli wines are designed for enjoyment on release.
