Cellar Can Blau

It received malolactic fermentation in barrel, was aged for 20 months in new French oak, and bottled unfiltered. Dark ruby/ purple-colored, it offers a flamboyant nose of pain grille, scorched earth, tar, and kirsch. Full-bodied with a supple texture, the wine has layers of sweet fruit, nicely integrated oak, tannin, and acidity, in its racy personality.

International Wine Cellar

(a blend of carinena, syrah and garnacha) Dark purple. Sexy aromas of blackberry, blueberry, Asian spices and smoked meat. Supple and open-knit, with sweet dark berry preserve flavors, velvety texture and good mineral bite. Manages to be both nervy and concentrated, with very good finishing clarity and cut. Leaves strong blue fruit notes behind and repeats the spicy quality.

Score: 91. —Josh Raynolds, October 01, 2008.

Wine Advocate

The 2007 Can Blau is purple-colored with a nose of cedar, mineral, baking spices, blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to a full-bodied wine with layers of flavor, enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years, and a pure, fruit-filled finish. It will be at its peak from 2010 to 2018.

Score: 90. —Jay Miller, August 2008.

Wine Enthusiast

Big and dark, and it comes with no shortage of prune, blackberry, smoky oak and depth. A lusty flavor profile filled with blackberry, cola, clove and chocolate is stout and satisfying, while the dark finish sports licorice and bitter cacao. Forthright and chunky wine. Drink now into 2011.

Score: 89. —Michael Schachner, October 01, 2009.

Wine Spectator

Crisp acidity and toasty oak frame bright cherry, cocoa, leaf and mint flavors in this brisk, medium-bodied red. A bit raw, but lively and focused. Mazuelo, Syrah and Garnacha. Drink now through 2011.

Score: 87. —Thomas Matthews, February 28, 2009.
